 What is a mackerel? A mackerel ( Scomber scombrus ) is a marine fish in the mackerel family. It has a body that is coil-shaped and has two dorsal fins. It is mottled green on the back, with shades of blue, and a pearlescent belly. Above all, the mackerel eats small insects, such as plankton and shrimp. That's why it loves streams - where the prey thrives best. Where are the mackerel?
